February 02, 2017 by Ashley Poag

There have been many predictions about what web design trends are most important for 2017. It really depends on your audience and business as to which ones are right for you. Generally there are some reoccurring or consistent themes like personalization, responsive design and speed. We’ve put together three trends that we think are unique but fall within those categories. We’ve also assembled some statistics from various sources that support how well they can work for a website.

Web Design Trends Durham

Age-Responsive Design:

According to Google 50% of users get frustrated with sites that are not designed for mobile and 75% prefer mobile-friendly websites (Source: Google)

Did you know you could use metadata to deliver responsive design based on age? Depending on a person’s age group different experiences can be more desireable even on the same device. A senior may appreciate larger font size and navigation that doesn’t require you to be tech-savvy. Teens may appreciate lots video while a young child could prefer certain colors.

Landing Page Design:

Personalization continues to evolve in design, UX and content.  When using automated marketing campaigns we know the importance of the landing page. Trends show that landing pages could start to outrank the homepage or more efficiently through personalization, act as both. Creating several variants of your homepage that are specific to a persona can be highly effective in gaining conversions.

Skeleton Screen Design:

59% of consumers globally would rather engage with content that’s beautifully designed as opposed to simply designed —even when short on time. (Source: Adobe)

35% of users switch devices if the content is unattractive in its layout or imagery – 38% stop engaging all together (Source: Adobe)

With Skeleton Screen design you feel less of a need to sacrifice a beautiful page in an effort to achieve a faster load time. The statistics support that people prefer pages that are aesthetically pleasing. That doesn't mean we don’t want fast load times. Skeleton screen design allows you to buy a little patience with the perception that the page is loading faster because you can see the intended layout.
